MOCA NORTH MIAMI PRESENTS DIANA EUSEBIO: FIELD OF DREAMS

First Solo Museum Exhibition Explores Cultural Preservation, Ancestral Memory, and the Meaning of Home Through Natural Dyes and Textiles

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is proud to present Diana Eusebio: Field of Dreams, the South Florida-based artist’s first solo museum exhibition. On view from November 5, 2025, through March 16, 2026, this immersive installation reimagines what it means to build and preserve a sense of home through the transformative power of fiber, color, and memory.

Drawing from her Indigenous Peruvian-Quechua and Afro-Dominican heritage, Eusebio merges personal narrative with collective tradition in a body of work that honors the places she calls home: the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Miami, Florida. Through hand-dyed fabrics, digital works, and textile installations, the artist creates a visual language that speaks to memory, migration, belonging, and the enduring bond between people and place.

“Diana Eusebio’s practice represents a powerful convergence of ancestral knowledge and contemporary artistic vision,” said Chana Budgazad Sheldon, Executive Director of MOCA North Miami. “Grounded in Miami’s diverse environment, Field of Dreams reflects MOCA’s mission to celebrate local creativity while amplifying narratives that resonate far beyond our borders. This exhibition offers a richly layered exploration of identity, ecology, and heritage through the lens of contemporary textile art.”

A Living Palette: Seven Sacred Dyes

Central to Eusebio’s practice is her use of seven natural dyes sourced from the Americas and the Caribbean, each carrying centuries of cultural tradition: avocados and cochineal (cochinilla) for reds and pinks; annatto (bija), Spanish moss (itla-okla), and marigolds for yellows and oranges; Palo de Campeche (logwood) for purple; and indigo for blue. From harvesting and boiling plants to immersing fabric in dye baths, Eusebio’s process honors time-tested techniques passed down through generations, connecting her contemporary practice to ancient wisdom.

These vibrant hues transform the gallery into what Eusebio envisions as an ethnobotanical garden of art—a living environment where suspended Spanish moss mingles with soft muhly grass, and family portraits layer memory upon memory in communicative dialogue.

Building New Ground: The Immigrant Experience

The exhibition takes its title from the 1989 baseball film Field of Dreams, which explores themes of faith, belief, and second chances. For Eusebio, this reference resonates deeply with the Dominican immigrant experience: the courageous act of building a new home in a new land while carrying the seeds of ancestral tradition forward.

“This exhibition is about what we carry with us and what we cultivate in new soil,” Eusebio explains. “It’s about the dreams that survive displacement and the beauty that emerges when we honor both where we come from and where we’re going.”

Exhibition Experience

Diana Eusebio: Field of Dreams invites visitors to move through an immersive environment that celebrates heritage, community, and the natural world. The installation transforms MOCA’s galleries into a sensory journey where color, texture, and narrative interweave to create a space of reflection and connection.

Eusebio’s formally trained approach in fiber and textile design merges seamlessly with intergenerational knowledge, creating a dialogue between material practice and lived experience. Her work reflects Miami’s unique ecosystems alongside the landscapes of her family’s homelands, offering visitors a meditation on cultural preservation and the stories embedded in the very fabric of our lives.
