From the Founders Kathryn and Dan

At the end of 2016, it was with great pride and excitement that we took The Fountainhead to the next stage by becoming a community nonprofit and securing it’s future for generations to come. Over the last few years, we have expanded our collaborations with institutions, curators, cultural embassies and nonprofits around the world. This greatly broadened the outreach, audience, and value to Fountainhead artists and supporters and we’re only just beginning.

On a very personal note, the artists that are a part of the Fountainhead family have changed our lives. They have been a constant source of inspiration. They have helped mold our children into open-minded, compassionate, and confident individuals. We are proud to say the artists that have joined us in the past years have said that their careers and their lives have been enhanced by their experiences here. We think it’s safe to say we have all have fostered relationships that will last a lifetime. We look forward to continuing to expand the Fountainhead family of artists and supporters.

We inspire, engage and connect people.
Artists and art are our vehicles.

The Fountainhead, founded in 2008 by collectors Dan and Kathryn Mikesell accomplishes this by enhancing the lives and careers of artists, infusing Miami’s growing art and cultural community with artistic inspiration from around the world, collaborating with our local institutions, non-profits and businesses to support our city’s growth, building a global family that transcends all borders and continues to give back, and cultivating new audiences for the arts through intimate engagements, education and unique experiences.

The Fountainhead Residency brings artists from around the world to live and work in Miami for up to two months. We host 3-4 artists at a time and between 30-40 artists per year. To date over 300 artists from 36 countries have taken part in the residency.

The Residency is centrally located in the historic neighborhood of Morningside. It provides artists with an environment to take themselves out of their daily routines, find new inspiration, conduct research and create new work. While artists are with us they meet the people that make Miami’s community one-of-a-kind and gain critical feedback on their work from arts professionals.

The Residency opens its doors once a month to welcome everyone to meet our visiting artists.

The Fountainhead Studios provides Miami-based artists with affordable, flexible, and safe working studio space. There are currently more than 30 artists working in every medium: painting, photography, sculpture, video, performance, and installation.

The Studios is located in a 25,000 sq ft. warehouse in Little River. More than just studio space we provide a community for a profession that is often solitary.

The Studios opened its doors twice a year to the public giving people a rare view into the artists’ world.

The Fountainhead Haus, was a temporary project from 2012-2014. Artists Agustina Woodgate, Christina Lei Rodriguez, Clifton Childree, Manny Prieres, and Type transformed a home into a collaborative studio, workshop and gathering space. The work, experiences and stories mark this historic moment in time.
