Miramar’s “Art in Public Places” Initiative Recognized by Florida Association of Public Art Professionals
The City of Miramar is proud to announce that its “Art in Public Places” initiative has been recognized by the Florida Association of Public Art Professionals (FAPAP) and added to their Florida Public Art Programs list. This initiative encompasses both the Miramar Cultural Center’s (MCC) “Windows to Our World” program and the newly launched “Miramar Artscape” project.
Miramar Artscape, unveiled last week at a festive ceremony in the MCC’s Botanical Garden, features rotating public art installations on loan from renowned sculptors Robert Coons, Donald Gialanella, and Atomik. These captivating sculptures are displayed throughout the Botanical Garden and the green spaces surrounding Miramar Town Center, adding a vibrant artistic dimension to the city’s landscape.

By showcasing the works of prominent sculptors, the program transforms Miramar Town Center into an accessible outdoor art gallery, free and open to the public.

Luis Kaiulani Sculptor Big Red Clover
Born Honolulu, Hawaii,1963, growing up as a child in Hawaii, Kaiulani describes his influence as a mixture of culture & nature, geography & philosophy. His upbringing involved absorbing all of the wonders of the Hawaiian forests, playing in the sands on secluded beaches, meditating on mountaintops and diving into one of the world’s most amazing bodies of water, the Pacific Ocean. While he credits his affinity toward nature to this another side of Kaiulani that is fiery, passionate and aching for excitement. He attributes this ‘fiery’ side to his Latin American heritage, for the past 20 years, Kaiulani’s attention to fluidity, mindfulness and color dimension bring his artworks into a realm all of their own. Kaiulani creates abstract works that draw from his Hawaiian and Venezuelan backgrounds and are expressed via his sculptures, paintings and art objects.
For the onlooker, his work simultaneously feels strong and imaginary, much like the archipelago he hails from. His focus on color brings to life his work’s objective, Kaiulani says, “My art is a metaphor for nature’s constant quest for growth through learning, experience and contribution.” And this objective is made evident when one looks at the color and rhythm that his works of art exude.
He is a self-taught sculptor, he seeks subjects that complement his growing concern with form, space, and color, where the presentation of forms and symbols as subject matters illuminate modern existence as has been the influence of Surrealism, Cubism, and Abstract art. In his arsenal, Kaiulani utilizes various combinations of painting and sculpture construction methods. Kaiulani finds circles and lines to have many variations and these variables allow him limitless options of expression. While creating artworks, Kaiulani transfers onto his canvas and metal sculptures a notable graceful emphasis that permits him to express himself and create wondrous masterpieces. One of Kaiulani’s signatures is that he welds, cuts, sand and paints all his pieces , it all has to be just right. To Kaiulani, even the canvas is part of the painting as the welding is part of the sculpture, from beginning to end, the attention to details during the assembly process is the physical part of bringing a piece together. It’s more than a mind connection, it’s a physical connection. Kaiulani is always creating and producing in his studio, he is currently preparing various installations that will soon debut. Luis declares, “My goal is to keep moving forward, to keep making works of art; I’m focused on making many more paintings and sculptures.”

These elements intertwine, generating diverse effects and experiences while forming a cohesive whole. Using natural mediums that represent nature and artificial mediums that represent technology. Technology is the result of our imagination and creativity to build tools. Artificial intelligence allows us to push the boundaries of what is possible and opens up new opportunities for growth and advancement in the external world. AI, in particular, is an extension of our minds. Within this creative journey, I strive to unlock the depths of expression and connect with viewers profoundly.
Gus and Linda Ocamposilva Sculptors Dolphins Game
Gus and Lina Ocamposilva are husband and wife team of sculptors who have obtained enormous respect in U.S.A. Self-taught metal artists, 18 years ago: He aims for the welding torch. She cuts the metal sheets. Some days, vise versa. Together they install metal sculptures around the world and share the same passion for art. Gus Ocamposilva took Murals courses at Massana School of Barcelona and painting procedures at Barcelona University, Spain (1992-1995).
During Spring of 2013 they were invited by the City of New York to exhibit three of their 13ft (Dancers of the Wind) sculptures designed to be placed along the East River Park Promenade in Manhattan.
Gus and Lina have been awarded several permanent Public Art projects commissioned by different cities and private collectors in cities such as: New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Miami, among others. They also have many Juried Public Art Outdoor exhibitions throughout the states: Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, California, South Dakota, Colorado, North and South Carolina, Missouri, Georgia, New York, Connecticut, which has given them experience working in public art; becoming the couple of Latin American sculptors with more jute in the American Public Art Market .
Their sculptures are made of strong aluminum, but appear soft and fluid. The bend forms incorporate tubes and exposed bolts. They created their own style with character using bright colors, empty spaces and balance.
