Saturday, November 2, 2024, opens the exhibition “Mycelium Garden” by artist Veronica Riedel, who will present a selection of her recent work at IDArtLab, Miami.

Curated by Felix Suazo, the exhibition addresses the relationship between man and nature, using mycelium as a metaphor for connection and regeneration. As the artist explains, “By exploring these themes, I seek to underscore the interconnectedness of our actions and the environment, fostering a deeper understanding of our collective responsibility to the earth and each other.”

The project includes large-format installations and assemblages, made with bio-leathers from local organic waste such as cocoa, coffee, bananas, magüey, cotton, and medicinal herbs, among other materials. Some of the pieces combine biomaterials with photographic images or images generated by artificial intelligence to recreate a new landscape in which destruction and creation, organic and non-organic, present and future coexist.

According to curator Felix Suazo, “Veronica Riedel’s proposal recalls the subway fabric that protects the earth’s bed and sustains natural life. There, among amorphous scraps, sprout specimens of unknown taxonomy that come to replace the devastated horizon. Their appearance, color, and consistency configure a new landscape, composed of bubbles, particles, filaments, and unexpected ramifications.”

In parallel with the exhibition “Mycelium Garden”, the artist is planning the presentation of her anthological book “Veronica Riedel. All The Worlds That Are In This One” / “Verónica Riedel. Todos los mundos que están en este” at Books & Books bookstore in Coral Gables on November 16, 2024 at 5 pm.

With the exhibition “Mycelium Garden”, Verónica Riedel culminates an intense exhibition schedule that throughout 2024 has allowed her to show her work at La Mecha Contemporary Gallery in El Paso, Texas, at the JUANNIO Latin American Art Auction and the Rozas-Botrán Gallery and Foundation in Guatemala. In addition, she won the prestigious Karstica residency in Cañada del Hoyo, Spain, in September 2024 and participated in the group exhibition “Tejiendo identidades, diálogos, huellas y futuro” at Arte Al Límite Museo, Chile, open from September 2024 to March 2025.

Veronica Riedel is a multimedia artist who works with themes of social content, ecology, and women’s issues. Many of her works are made in collaboration with indigenous communities in Guatemala. Her works have been awarded and exhibited in museums and international art fairs, and are part of important private and public collections in Guatemala, Latin America, Europe, and the United States.

The exhibition “Mycelium Garden” by Verónica Riedel can be visited until November 23, 2024, Tuesday through Saturday, from 3 to 7 pm at IDArtlab, located at 676 NW 23rd St, Miami, FL 33127.
