“LIMBIC GEOMETRIES” NEW WORK BY CARRIE SIEH OPENING ON AUGUST 29TH
Graphite skies, encoded texts, and shifting color explore how meaning solidifies at the moment of observation.
Bernice Steinbaum Gallery
Bernice Steinbaum Gallery is pleased to present Limbic Geometries, a solo exhibition of new work by interdisciplinary artist Carrie Sieh. On view from August 29, 2026 through October 10, 2026. Opening reception: Saturday, August 29, 3 pm–6 pm. 2101 Tigertail Ave, Miami, FL, 33133
“Limbic Geometries” borrows its central metaphor from quantum theory’s principle of superposition: the idea that a system can hold multiple potential states simultaneously, collapsing into a single clear state only through observation. For Sieh, this becomes an avenue for considering the dualities of intimacy. Her approach to these ideas takes shape as mixed-media works on paper and panel, dominated by graphite drawings of expansive skies.
Rendered without color, cumulus cloud formations and wildfire smoke can each be mistaken for the other: neither transcendent nor threatening until a viewer, influenced by memory and experience, perceives one or the other. Holes punched throughout each surface, formatted according to the conventions of early computing, conceal enciphered fragments of song lyrics, while ambiguous shadows of bodies in contact appear to shift in color as the viewer moves.
Carrie Sieh was born in Los Angeles, California, and lives and works in Miami, Florida. Her socially engaged practice, informed by her background in library science and permaculture, is centered on tensions between the embodiment and concealment of information. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Baker Museum, Coral Gables Museum, Miami International Airport, The Art and History Museums of Maitland, and The Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. Awards and residencies include Atlantic Center for the Arts, Oolite Arts, Bakehouse, Deering Estate, and the Miami-Dade Individual Artist Grant. Collections include 21c Museum Hotels, The James Hotel, and Girls’ Club. Sieh is an Artist Partner at Dimensions Variable, a member of W.A.G.E., and is represented by Bernice Steinbaum Gallery.
