Living Networks Connects NWSA Alumni, Students, and Archives in a Living Ecosystem of Artistic Practice

Curated by O. Gustavo Plascencia
Reception: October 24, 5–8 PM
New World Gallery
25 NE 2 Street, Lobby, Miami, FL

Living Networks, curated by O. Gustavo Plascencia, brings together work by New World School of the Arts alumni, current students, and materials drawn from the NWSA archives to create a dialogue between past and present generations of artists.

Living Networks

Conceived as a living ecosystem of artistic practice, the exhibition examines how creative communities evolve over time while remaining connected through shared histories, pedagogical experiences, and artistic exchange. Artworks and archival materials highlight the development of artistic practices, educational approaches, and creative networks that have emerged from the institution across generations.

At the center of Living Networks is the idea of the NWSA community as an interconnected system. Each participant is understood as a point within a broader network, tracing an individual artistic path while simultaneously contributing to larger cultural and creative ecosystems.

The exhibition positions the alumni community as a living archive—one that continues to expand, adapt, and shape the cultural landscape beyond the institution itself. By bringing archival materials into conversation with contemporary artistic production, Living Networks activates these artifacts as living documents rather than static historical records.

Through this approach, the exhibition reveals the enduring influence of New World School of the Arts and considers how its artistic and educational legacy continues to inform Miami’s cultural environment and the broader contemporary art ecosystem.

Living Networks invites audiences to consider artistic education not simply as a period of formation, but as the beginning of an evolving network of relationships, practices, ideas, and cultural contributions that continue long after artists leave the classroom.
