“Neighborhood Watch” by Christopher Mitchell Opens at Laundromat Art Space
Laundromat Art Space proudly presents Neighborhood Watch, a solo exhibition by Miami-based artist Christopher Mitchell, opening Friday, August 1, from 6:00–10:00 AM. This one-week-only exhibition explores themes of gentrification, memory, and cultural resilience through the lens of film photography, offering a poignant reflection on the rapidly evolving landscape of Little Haiti.
Presented in celebration of Laundromat Art Space’s 10th anniversary, Neighborhood Watch honors a decade of fostering experimental art and community-driven creativity in Miami’s urban core. The exhibition features large-scale photographs that spotlight everyday spaces and architectural details in Little Haiti—visual anchors in a neighborhood navigating change and displacement.
“Through film photography, I wanted to preserve the essence of a community whose visual identity is quickly disappearing,” says Mitchell. “These images are both a record and a reminder.”
The opening reception on August 1 invites guests to experience the work, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate Laundromat’s milestone with local artists and community members.
