THE BETSY PRESENTS FROM VENICE WITH LOVE, A HOTEL-WIDE EXHIBITION BY INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MIAMI ARTIST EDOUARD DUVAL-CARRIÉ

New Exhibition Transforms the Michelin Key Hotel Into an Immersive Showcase of Contemporary Art Through Gallery Installations, Public Art and Community Programming

MIAMI BEACH, FL (August 6, 2026) – The Betsy, a boutique Michelin Key hotel located in the heart of South Beach’s Art Deco District and recognized as a hub for arts and culture, presents From Venice With Love, a property-wide exhibition by internationally acclaimed Miami-based Haitian artist Edouard Duval-Carrié. On display through November 15, 2026, the exhibition coincides with the artist’s presentation at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia—the world’s most prestigious contemporary art exhibition—allowing guests and visitors to simultaneously experience his vibrant, mixed-media works exploring Caribbean history and culture.

Curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning Haitian-American visual historian and cultural storyteller Carl-Philippe Juste, From Venice With Love transforms The Betsy into an immersive showcase that delves into themes of migration, memory, Vodou symbolism and the enduring cultural ties between Haiti and Africa, offering a powerful exploration of identity while challenging conventional narratives of the Caribbean.

Widely regarded as one of South Florida’s most influential contemporary artists (he was named Miami-Dade County’s official artist-in-residence in 2024), Duval-Carrié’s politically charged sculptures and mixed-media paintings often draw on magical realism to explore identity, migration, spirituality and the African and Caribbean diaspora. For more than three decades, his studio in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood has served as an important center of artistic production and cultural life. 

The exhibition opened August 1 with multiple installations in the hotel’s gallery and “Ode to the Everglades,” a monumental lobby display that will remain on view following the exhibition’s conclusion on November 15 through Miami Art Week.

On August 9, From Venice With Love will expand with the debut of a collection of 26 illuminated light boxes in BBar and an immersive digital installation on “The Betsy Orb,” the hotel’s iconic architectural landmark, and public art platform. Marking the second installation in The Betsy Orb’s recently launched year-round digital art program, the projection is curated and adapted by Carl-Philippe Juste, who reimagines Duval-Carrié’s work through synchronized projection and music. The dynamic public art experience, developed through a decades-long creative relationship between Juste and Duval-Carrié, will be visible from The Betsy’s restored alleyway connecting Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue.

“By transforming so many spaces throughout The Betsy—including the Orb—we’re inviting visitors to become participants rather than observers,” said Juste. “The Orb offers a new interpretation of Edouard’s work, but the technology is never the point. The art comes first, creating opportunities for people to experience it together, eye to eye, and continue the conversations it inspires.”

The collection reflects The Betsy’s longstanding commitment to making world-class art accessible while inspiring meaningful conversation and the exchange of ideas. Like all exhibitions, galleries and cultural programming at The Betsy, From Venice With Love, The Betsy Orb installation and all accompanying public programs are free and open to the public.

“It’s extraordinary that a hotel lends itself to this kind of production and brings so many partners together,” said Duval-Carrié. “Guests from around the world will encounter these works in unexpected places, giving me an opportunity to share my view of the world and the history of Haiti with audiences who may be discovering it for the first time. I hope the experience creates a context for deeper conversations and reminds us of art’s unique ability to bring people together—even around difficult subjects.”

More than an art exhibit, From Venice With Love serves as a community-wide initiative produced collaboratively by The Betsy Writer’s Room and the FIU Public Humanities Lab, with support from the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation’s CreARTE program and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. Through free public programming, curated academic salons and live performances in both Miami Beach and Little Haiti, the initiative creates space for dialogue surrounding Caribbean art, history and identity while serving as a living laboratory for the African and Caribbean diaspora. In a region home to the world’s largest Haitian diaspora communities, the collection creates a meaningful opportunity to engage with themes that have helped shape Miami’s cultural identity.
