CITY STATE: A special artistic zone in Miami
CITY STATE is a distinctive artist-run space in Miami that brings together showrooms, workshops, studios, exhibition areas, and a sculpture garden. Founded by artist Jillian Mayer, the space was conceived, designed, and operated by artists as a flexible environment for creative production, experimentation, collaboration, and public presentation.
Its name draws inspiration from the historical idea of a city-state: an independent city that functions as a center of political, economic, and cultural life. In a similar spirit, CITY STATE operates as a self-directed artistic community—an ecosystem where artists can create, exhibit, exchange ideas, and develop new projects.
The space is currently run by Jillian Mayer and Rose Marie Cromwell.
